Here at Burbage, we believe in providing as many broad and rich experiences for our children as possible. This includes local visits within Buxton itself, visits to other locations and a multitude of activities, events and experiences. Wider Opportunities Music
We engage with the Derbyshire Music Partnership's Wider Opportunities programme. This year (2022-3), Year 4 have received whole class music tuition with the djembe drums and are seen here performing to parents.

Year 5 & 6 pupils took part in The Big Sing - a collaborative music opportunity performed in St John's Church.

Y4 residential
Y4 enjoyed a residential visit to Glenbrook and engaged in a range of outdoor and adventurous activities. For many children, this was their first experience of being away from home. Independence and resilience was high on the agenda.

We liaise closely with several faith groups, representing a range of religions. Here we see Y5 children visiting our local Methodist church to learn about places of worship.

World Book Day
World Book Day
Each year we throw ourselves into World Book Day to emphasize just how much we all love reading. This year (2023), the assembly was led by the evil 'Ms Root', overseen by the kinder 'Gangsta Granny'!

Macclesfield Forest
Macclesfield Forest
Year 5 really wowed the Peak District staff on their Macclesfield Forest trip. The children loved drawing plan maps, orienteering and playing among the trees! Their mapping skills are fantastic even in the cold and wet!

We take part in as many sporting opportunities as we are able. Here we see our gold medal winning gymnastics squad in their High Peak competition.

We welcome many people into school to provide different perspectives to the children. Year 5 enjoyed a visit from 'Creeping Toad' to learn about the history of Peak District animals.

EYFS have lots of visitors, including some which are not human! They really enjoyed meeting two guide dogs and learning all about how people help one another.

Year 2 spent a wonderful day exploring our local landscape with Buxton Civic Association. They had a fabulous time and learnt lots, despite the weather.

EYFS get out and about learning about key road safety messages. They go into the local community to learn these important lessons.

We take the children on coach visits to a range of destinations to support their learning. Here, Y5 enjoyed a day at Yorkshire Sculpture Park to inspire their art work during our 'Create' unit.

The Year 1 children had a great time at the All Stars cricket festival in Buxton. We have some budding cricketers amongst the group and they all did the school proud!

Learning about faiths
Learning about faiths
We learn about a range of beliefs and faiths through our religious education lessons but we also welcome visitors from a range of faiths during our 'R.E day'. Visitors from Derby Open Centre talk to the children about a range of religions.

Buxton Wild Week
Buxton Wild Week
We engaged in many activities as part of our Buxton Wild Week in May 2023. Frances Sussex launched the week on Monday with a whole school assembly and we have welcomed several other visitors to promote a love of wildlife and the outdoors. We have developed some areas of our school grounds to promote the growth of wild flowers; visited Grinlow Woods; engaged in river studies and worked in our wild area on pollinators and soil. We have had 'wild stories' on the bus at lunchtime and developed mapping skills via our local walks. Please see some of the images below. Huge thanks to all of the staff involved in leading and delivering the sessions, especially Mrs Evans, Mrs Fisher and our ECO council for their organisation. A HUGE thank you to everyone who contributed a donation to either the Zink and High Peak Foodbank or to ‘Christmas for the Community’ in 2022. Our school representatives dropped off all the bags and we’ve been overwhelmed by your generosity.

Year 6 really look forward to their visit to the White Hall Centre. A wide range of outdoor and adventurous activities are enjoyed during the residential visit.

We were excited to welcome world champion Jacob Roberts to lead an assembly.
Jacob spoke to the children about the importance of perseverance and putting in effort to achieve the best outcomes even if something is challenging.
We were super-impressed to see a few of his many trophies. One of them was bigger than some of the children! -

We do lots of work to promote diversity. In June 2023, we had a 'diversity day' and Y2 worked on similarities, differences and being 'unique'.

Our wellbeing week in June 2023 was a great success. We enjoyed a range of activities and experiences, including a visit from Alex - a yoga teacher who taught us breathing techniques.

Our 2023 Sports Day was a great success. The children showed wonderful team spirit and many of the hundreds of parents on site commented on their kindness and patience.
